How to Write a Resume

Your resume is your story — make it count.

At SNAP Workforce, we believe every jobseeker deserves a resume that reflects their
strengths, values, and potential. Whether you’re applying for your first job, changing
careers, or stepping into a leadership role, your resume should be clear, confident, and
tailored to the opportunity.

Here’s how to write a resume that gets noticed:

1. Start with Your Contact Details

Include your:

  • Full name
  • Mobile number
  • Email address
  • Suburb and postcode (optional but helpful for local employers)

Make sure your email is professional — avoid nicknames or outdated accounts.

2. Write a Strong Summary Statement

This is your elevator pitch. In 2–3 sentences, describe:

  • Who you are professionally
  • What you bring to the role
  • What kind of work you’re looking for

Example: Motivated hospitality worker with 3+ years of experience in fast-paced
environments. Skilled in customer service, team support, and shift coordination. Seeking a
stable role in a community-focused café or venue.

3. Highlight Your Skills

Use bullet points to list your key strengths. Focus on practical, transferable skills.
Examples:

  • Reliable and punctual
  • Strong communication and teamwork
  • Safe food handling and hygiene
  • Basic computer and digital literacy
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently

4. List Your Work Experience

Include:

  •  Job title
  • Employer name
  • Dates of employment
  • 2–3 dot points describing what you did

Tip: If you don’t have formal work experience, include volunteer roles, community projects,
or informal work (e.g. babysitting, yard work, helping at events).

5. Add Your Education and Training

Include:

  • School or training provider
  • Course name
  • Completion year (or “currently studying”)

You can also include short courses, certificates or licenses (e.g. RSA, White Card, First Aid).

6. Keep It Clean and Simple

  • Use plain fonts (e.g. Arial, Calibri)
  • Stick to one page if possible
  • Avoid photos, graphics or coloured backgrounds
  • Save as a PDF
